CHORUS
Full Year
Grades 9 - 12
1 unit
High School Chorus is open to all students who desire to explore the performing arts at an advanced level. Students are
helped to develop knowledge and understanding of music that can lead to future music studies, as well as the development of
skills that can be used in future leisure time activities. The music is chosen to provide a varied background for the student
in choral literature. Students are encouraged to develop personal goals and abilities, as well as the ability to work with
others toward a common performance goal.
The High School Vocal program consists of a Men's Chorus, Women's Chorus and Mixed Chorus. Membership in Mixed Chorus
is based on individual talent and seniority. All juniors and seniors will automatically be enrolled in Mixed Chorus. Sophomores
and freshman will be selected on a space available basis. All choruses perform six times each year: Fall Concert, Christmas
Concert, NICL Vocal Festival, State Large Group Contest, Arts Festival, and Commencement. In alternate years a Fall Musical
will be performed. A large part of its cast will be chosen from chorus members. Private and small ensemble lessons will
be offered to those interested in preparation for State Solo and Ensemble Contest in the spring. Sectionals may be held in
the spring of the year in preparation for State Large Group Contest. Several festivals are offered to the more advanced students
throughout the course of the year. Such special performance opportunities include: All State Chorus, Dorian Honor Choir,
and Scholarship Auditions.
Expectations: Chorus members are expected to attend all performances and rehearsals involving their particular ensemble(s).
